Did you know?! Officer Dinnall is giving away 500 books to her kids at BGHC and other kids in our area. Tomorrow, Thursday 5/12 from 4-6 at the Boys & Girls Club of HC, Officer Dinnall is hosting her first book signing. Come check out the place that changed her life for the better and offered her a place to call home and a feeling of belonging.
Did you know?! That for just $5 per year children get free transport to BGHC everyday after school where they get help with homework, play games, make art, play sports and just hang out. The newly renovated facility is really impressive. They even have an AMAZING robotics lab!!! What a great resource with equally great people. We hope to see you there.

Appreciating my students today!
My daughter asked why we have teacher appreciation and mother's day and father's day but no kid's day or student day. We discussed and I think she got it.
BUT! I do want to show some appreciation for my students. They are why I do what I do. I am inspired by their passion, vision, talent, imagination, kindness and their humanity. I've missed them a lot and can't wait to get back to school tomorrow.
I want to give a special shout out to those that've shown up repeatedly and consistently for this ongoing sidewalk mural project with Elizabeth Queen. Sofia, Emma, Natalie, Sarah, Amy, Berit, Channing and others who shall remain anonymous, y'all have followed through and kept the fire burning even when I wasn't able to show along side of you. You all are awesome. Thank you so much for your commitment to making a difference in your community through the power of art!

This is a "pep talk" to all my fellow teachers out there. The expectations kept mounting and we met them time and time again. We do it for the kids. I'm proud.
This in no way is meant to belittle the other professions, especially our essential workers. I see you and appreciate you. It's just a sweet shout out to my peers. Much love!

Yellow oyster mushrooms grown in a bucket. Industrially they are grown in gas permeable plastic bags but this bucket option is, not plastic free, but not single use at least. Yes they can be grown on logs but You lose control of competing organisms. The biggest bunch will be ready to tomorrow it looks like. Slide nine is what the biggest bunch looked like two days ago. Slide 10 is drawing I found in my daughter's sketchbook. I desperately needed to art and all my stuff is at school. I think we're in for it based on this drawing I found. ("Outside vs. Inside")
Also day 3 of COVID. Yes. I was vaxed and boosted. It has settled into my chest. I am literally living on the couch day and night. I've watched way too much Netflix. latest season of Selling Sunset, Bridgeton, and now Russian Doll. The rest of the family seems to have escaped it so far. Thanks for everyone's well wishes.

I love my job. Everyday is a rollercoaster. There are highs and lows, frustration and sadness, but also pride and excitement. No matter what there is always the feeling that I am making a difference. HHS is a team. I love my coworkers especially this time of year. We get each other through. We help each other out. We lean on each other a lot. We can do this!

Assignment: Drawing with Light
Students learned about Rembrandt lighting in portrait photography, then drew with white charcoal from that photograph onto black paper.
I think it really helped them move away from relying so much on the outlines.
They really did well. 😁
